Edith Nesbit, (1858 -1924). Born in London, the youngest daughter of an agricultural chemist, Edith had an unsettled childhood, receiving her education in Britain, France and Germany. Turning to hack literary work after marrying young and in poverty, she eventually discovered her true talent for writing lively family stories.
