Mark Twain is pseudonym of the American novelist and humorist Samuel Lanhorne Clemens (1835-1910). Born in Florida, Missouri, he moved with his family to Mississippi River town of Hannibal when he was 4. He left school at the age of 12, and travelled as a journeyman printer. He served briefly in the Confederate Army during the Civil War.
